Crowning A Tooth: How It Works

A dental crown acts like a protective cover that fits over the top of a tooth or dental implant. It strengthens the tooth, brings back its normal shape, and improves how it looks and works.

Dental Crowns FAQ

Crowns offer many benefits from restorative dentistry like fixing a root canal and protecting teeth, to cosmetic dentistry purely for aesthetic reasons. Some common benefits include:

  • Reduces the chance of the tooth breaking or splitting due to decay

  • Holds together a severely broken or cracked tooth

  • Protects worn teeth whilst improving oral health

  • Anchors the dental bridge to increase bite strength and align teeth

  • Masks tooth discoloration or staining

  • Fixes misshapen teeth, crookedness, chips, cracks and fractures

  • Fortifies teeth against sensitivity, aches or soreness

  • Is a minimally invasive procedure and relatively straightforward

  • Typically has a long lifespan with minimal complications

Dental crown treatments vary in price depending on the crown material used, treatment and your health insurance provider.

If you have private health insurance that covers ‘Major Dental’ then you are eligible to receive the annual limit for dental crowns.

This is generally in the range of $500 to $1,500 depending on the procedure performed and your level of cover, and will cover most of the dental crown work.

We offer a no obligation free consultation so you know the exact out of pocket expense for your treatment.

Absolutely. St Lucia Dental guarantees dental crowns from our practice for a period of five years from the date of insertion with the terms and conditions listed below.

Terms and Conditions: If a crown provided by St Lucia Dental requires replacement within five years and the tooth is still saveable – we will replace this at no charge. The life expectancy of dental crowns is largely dependent on patient oral hygiene, routine hygiene and dental check-up appointments, and damage from teeth grinding.

The five-year warranty is valid only if six monthly check-up and hygiene visits are attended and night splints are worn (where recommended) .

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Hopefully, we’ve provided you with enough information to take the first step but if not we can answer all your questions in your first free consultation.

Call us or email us to arrange your no obligation free consultation. A dentist will analyse your teeth and mouth. They’ll then work with you to create a plan and timetable for your treatment. If you feel good about the plan, treatment can begin immediately. If not, you’ve gained valuable information and lost nothing in the process.
